I have a boyfriend problem?

My boyfriend and I r taking a break. We r still hanging out talking. What does that mean? Do u think he still cares about me and love me? His been depressed lately, and needs to get his life straighten out. Then we r gonna go back out. I'm just guessing he just don't want me to get hurt.
