How to take care of your hair in braid extensions?

my hair is chemically straightened and i'm planning to put braid extensions in my hair to help it grow a little over the summer. now my scalp gets try and itchy really fast, how can i prevent this without messing up the braids in my hair. and how to take care of my real hair whilst it is in the braids?
